As the lead service protecting our shores in times of peace, and war, you have achieved an enviable legacy of success in safeguarding the American people, promoting national security, protecting border security, and preserving economic prosperity. For 231 years the Coast Guard has demonstrated selfless devotion to duty and unstinting courage in the face of extreme danger - whether in battle against our nation's enemies or in the face of nature's wrath.
